How to sell on Prom.ua

Category: DevelopmentRead: 12 minWebLift

There are dozens of "register and fill in your product cards" guides online. What is harder to find is an answer to the question that decides whether a store survives: what to do when forty other sellers list the same article number right next to yours. Below is the basic sequence, the arithmetic of commissions, and how not to lose the price war.

How to start selling on Prom.ua

To start selling on Prom.ua you register your company on the platform, choose a listing package sized to your catalogue, upload products manually or via an XML file, set up payment and delivery, pass seller identification, and push your products into the marketplace. A seven-day trial period is available first, but selling during it is not allowed.

  1. Company registration on the platform: name, contacts, description of what you do.
  2. Choosing a package — they differ by the maximum number of products, from 1,000 to 100,000.
  3. Uploading the catalogue. Manual entry makes sense up to about a hundred items; beyond that you need a feed file.
  4. Payment and delivery: connecting a payment provider and delivery services.
  5. Seller identification — without it your products will not reach the marketplace.
  6. Launch and first orders, then the ongoing work on reviews and rating.

The first five steps take a day or two. The real work starts at step six, and that is where most newcomers stall: the catalogue is live and the orders are not coming.

What does selling on Prom.ua cost

Costs on Prom come in two parts: a listing package priced by catalogue size, and a commission on marketplace orders. The standard commission starts from 4.2% of the ordered item's value and depends on the category. In the "Econom" mode the rate is half that, from 2.1%, while promotion modes cost more.

Rates and packages get revised periodically, so always check the current Prom price list before running your numbers. More important than the rate itself: commission is charged on order value, so on thin-margin products it eats a noticeable share of profit. Build that into your pricing upfront rather than discovering it after the fact.

Can you sell on Prom.ua for free

You cannot sell properly for free. The platform offers a seven-day trial in which you can add up to 10,000 products and explore the interface, but sales are not available during that period. After the trial you need a paid listing package, and marketplace orders carry a commission on top.

So "free" here means "free to try", not "free to trade". That is a normal marketplace model: you are not paying for software, you are paying for access to an existing stream of buyers.

Can you sell on Prom.ua without a registered business

Unlike Rozetka, Prom does not require sole-proprietor documents at the registration step, so technically a private individual can start. But signing the platform agreement requires the status of a business entity: a registered sole proprietorship or a legal entity. General distance-selling and cash-transaction rules still apply.

The practical takeaway: you can check the interface and upload products quickly, but running sales systematically without a registered business will not work. Verify the tax group, rate and cash-register requirements with an accountant before launch rather than after a hundred orders. The platform updates its seller identification rules, so check the current version in Prom's help centre.

Is selling on Prom.ua worth it

Prom is worth it while your margin absorbs a commission from 4.2% plus the package cost, and your product has steady demand. The model works well for testing a niche quickly and making first sales without traffic of your own. It stops being worth it as turnover grows: commission scales with it, and the buyer stays the platform's customer rather than yours.

Run the numbers on a simple example. A product sells for 1,200 UAH, costs you 850, leaving 350 UAH of margin. A 4.2% commission is roughly 50 UAH, the listing package spreads across all your sales, and delivery and packaging take another slice. You keep around 250 UAH if everything goes smoothly. A single return wipes out the profit from two or three such deals, which is why the real question is not "how much will I sell" but "how many returns do I get and what does a buyer cost me".

How not to lose on price when dozens of sellers list the same item

On a marketplace the winner is not the cheapest seller but the one who sees competitors' prices before they see yours. Manual monitoring stops working past a hundred items. The working solution is automated price collection across your assortment from marketplaces and price aggregators, with alerts when a competitor drops below your profitability floor.

How wide the spread gets is clear from a live example. We ran our own monitoring tool against one specific power bank model: a price aggregator listed 63 offers ranging from 49,900 to 89,999 UAH, meaning the most expensive offer was nearly double the cheapest. On Rozetka the same model sold for 77,900. This is not an anomaly; it is the ordinary picture in any category with real demand.

Price spread on a single article number reaches 80%. A seller who cannot see it either gives away margin for nothing or sits for weeks at a price nobody buys at.

What automated monitoring gives you in practice: you stop discounting blindly, you notice the moment a competitor drops out of a position, and you can hold a price above market where your delivery or warranty is better. Technically this is not hard, because large marketplaces and aggregators expose data through open interfaces. The hard part is different: matching product names across sources to one article, because the same power bank is titled differently in three catalogues.

How to upload a large catalogue to Prom

Catalogues above a hundred items are uploaded via a feed file rather than by hand. Prom accepts an XML file with products, prices, stock levels and attributes. If you already have a website or an accounting system, the feed is generated automatically and refreshed on a schedule, so prices and stock on the platform match your warehouse without manual work.

The common failure here is not the file itself but synchronisation. If stock updates once a week, you regularly sell what you do not have and pay for it in rating. If attributes are filled in carelessly, the product never reaches the filters and never gets shown to the buyer, even when your price is the best. We set up these feeds as part of building the store, together with stock synchronisation.

When Prom stops being enough and you need your own site

Prom stops being enough when commission on turnover exceeds the cost of running your own store, when you need a customer base for repeat sales, and when you want search traffic you do not have to buy again each time. Up to that point the platform is the better deal; past it, it starts working against you.

The sensible path is not to abandon Prom but to stop depending on it alone. Your own store accumulates SEO traffic and a customer base while the marketplace stays an additional sales channel. The same feed you send to Prom also goes to Rozetka and to Google Merchant.

What such a store costs and which expenses appear after launch is covered separately in how much a website costs in 2026. If you are choosing between renting a platform and building your own, there is a comparison in choosing an ecommerce platform. And if you sell without holding stock, start with what dropshipping is and how it works. For how Prom compares with every other platform in the country, see Ukrainian marketplaces. The product card requirements are covered separately: Prom caps the product name at 110 characters, and that is only one of the differences from ROZETKA and Epicentr.
